Celebrating National NeighborWorks Week
During NeighborWorks Week (June 4-12), the North Country Housing Council, Inc. and other NeighborWorks organizations across the country will mobilize tens of thousands of residents, business people and government officials in a week of neighborhood change and awareness. The North Country Housing Council is currently gearing up for grants awarded to rehab and repair homes county wide, with specific grants for owner occupied homes in the Towns of Fowler & Madrid, we will be celebrating new home owners with a Housing Preservation Class and recognizing our contractor partners with an appreciation breakfast. Our staff and banking/real estate partners will be sharing a booth at our local farmer's market in the Canton Park.
St. Lawrence County residents face many economical obstacles, with purchase, home repair and maintenance to their homes. Our goal is to serve as many low to moderate income, owner occupied and first time homebuyer households, as grant money is available, to repair homes and enhance communities with first time homebuyers from our repair and home ownership programs.
Our First Time Homebuyer Program has assisted 21 new households in 2016, in purchasing homes throughout SLC with our CDBG homebuyer grant. We are additionally taking applications for our upcoming $2.1 Million of awarded CDBG grants for Owner Occupied rehabilitation throughout SLC.
The North Country Housing Council, Inc. is part of the national NeighborWorks network, an affiliation of more than 240 nonprofit organizations located in every state, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. In 2015, the NeighborWorks network helped nearly 356,000 individuals and families with affordable housing and counseling. The NeighborWorks network was founded and is supported by NeighborWorks America, which creates opportunities for people to live in affordable homes, improve their lives and strengthen their communities.
